Lost baby whale in Australia...

A baby humpback whale has apparently mistaken a yacht for its mother. Rescuers in Australia are monitoring the whale calf, which was spotted off Sydney's northern beaches Monday. Poor thing...

Update: Today vets euthanised the baby whale to end its suffering.

Wildlife officials had no other choice but to end the whale's misery, said Sally Barnes, deputy director-general of the New South Wales Department of Environment and Climate Change.

"It's a very sad day — it's a very emotional day," a weary-looking Barnes said as she stood in the rain soon after the creature was dragged to a beach and injected with lethal drugs. "People have become very attached to this whale."

The 14-foot-long animal's condition deteriorated rapidly Thursday, prompting officials to make the decision to end its life. By Friday morning, the whale was starving and riddled with parasites, appeared to have been attacked by sharks, and had drifted into very shallow waters, Barnes said at USA Today.

R.I.P. Colin!

It's a sad story. Today I read in the newspaper that they wanted to 'give' euthanasia to the baby whale, because they don't want it to be killed bij sharks! Cruel nature.

Thanks for stopping by my site. My blog design was started from a very basic template that I then customized myself. If you'd like me to try and customize it for you just provide me with your preferences and maybe a picture for the header. I'm no designer but I might be able to help you. Plus, it's good practice for me.

Sooo sad... I hope there will come a whale that can adopt the poor little one...

As an Aussie near Sydney the update is that they are going to try and get him out to sea to be adopted by another whale. Unfortunately he is draining fast as he hasn't eaten for days and researchers are unsure what is safe to give them. For instance if you gave a kangaroo cows milk it will kill it.

I have watched this baby humpback in the local news in Sydney and it's just tragic as they need their mother's milk to survive. Without it this baby humpback will perish :(

This is so sad. Wonder what happened to its mother.

I've been catching up with your other posts too. They are all fascinating. Love the cat/rat one.
